Specks and Logs | Matthew 7:1-6
What do you focus on?
There’s nothing more infuriating than someone acting like they’re “better than you.”
But that’s how a lot of the world sees Christians. People who are supposed to be humble, supposed to be non-judgemental, supposed to be welcoming.
The reality is far from that. And of course it is, we’re all human. We all struggle with similar temptations. Believing in Christ doesn’t take away those temptations and struggles.
But we have His words to live by. And we ought to try to follow them.
“Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.
6 “Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.
This is one of those passages that hits home.
We’re all guilty of judging others. It’s my personal struggle especially. My pride gets in the way of following after Jesus.
But it’s a daily act of surrendering to God. Just because you mess up one day doesn’t mean you give up.
It’s a long game.
And the small steps of getting better, your life transforming bit by bit, becoming more reliant on Christ day by day, becoming more humble daily.
That’s the good stuff.
Have a blessed Thursday, my friends.
