Peace in the Storm | Matthew 8:23-27

Do you trust Him?

Nothing makes you feel as helpless as nature does.

Whether it’s being caught in a storm at sea, being in heavy turbulence on an airplane, or experiencing an earthquake, there’s something about natural disasters that makes humans feel extra vulnerable.

We realize that we aren’t completely in charge.

23 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. 24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. 25 And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” 26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”

Matthew 8:23-27

Up until this point, the disciples had heard amazing teachings and seen miraculous healings.

But they still didn’t fully understand who they were following.

I don’t blame them, if I were there I don’t think I would have acted any differently.

But at least they go and wake Him up, asking Him to save them.

Whether physical or not, we’ll all face some kind of storm in our lifetimes. Most likely more than one.

And in those times, do we trust Him enough to go and ask for His help?

The disciples learned that day that Jesus was more than just a good teacher and a miraculous healer; He was the Creator.

Everything is in His hands.

Every wave that hit the boat, every gust of wind that banged against the ship, and all the rain was in His control. And they all obeyed Him.

And He controls the storms in your life as well.

Sometimes all you have to do is ask Him to save you.

And He will.

If not now, He will in the end.

He works all things for our good.

Have a blessed Thursday, my friends.
