You Need to Take the First Step | Matthew 9:27-31

Lucky for us, it's not that hard

Remember when you were a kid, and you fell off your bike and scraped up your leg?

Who did you go to for help?

Probably a parent. Because they could make you feel better.

Whether by putting bandages on your scrapes, giving you a hug and kiss, or whatever the methods were.

But what if they didn’t know that you had the scrapes, and you came home and acted as though everything was normal?

Your parents probably wouldn’t put bandages on you. They probably wouldn’t try to make you feel better.

Because you didn’t come to them with your problem.

27 And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” 28 When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” 29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.” 30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, “See that no one knows about it.” 31 But they went away and spread his fame through all that district.

Matthew 9:27-31

The 2 blind men in the story clearly know of Jesus.

They’d probably heard accounts of Jesus’ healings throughout the cities and they likely traveled to be near Him somehow.

But it’s interesting that Jesus didn’t heal them on the streets like He did for almost everyone else before this account.

Instead, He waits for them to follow Him into the house, away from the crowds.

This allows for 2 things:

  1. Jesus can be more personal with these men and give them His full attention

  2. The men can display their faith and show they aren’t just following the crowd.

And therein lies the beauty and privilege we have in Christianity.

The ability to have a personal relationship with Jesus. The ability to come to Him with our problems, our bruises, and our burdens, and find healing and rest.

But it’s your choice to do so. God won’t force you to have a relationship with Him.

I hope you choose Him today.

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

Have a blessed Thursday, friends.
