Jesus Isn't a Hippie | Matthew 10:34-39
Not all vibes are good vibes
We can sometimes think of Jesus as a hippie-esque figure.
That He was all about love and peace and good vibes.
But that’s not an accurate picture of who Jesus was.
34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. 37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
Not necessarily the good vibes we would expect from a hippie type huh?
Devotion to Christ requires sacrifice.
Whether that be a sacrifice of our time, our money, our energy, or our relationships.
That might sound harsh. It is harsh.
But at the end of the day, when our 70 or 80 years of life on this earth are done, what will those years have been worth?
Isn’t it better to sacrifice a little bit in this life for an eternity of blessings and love with our Creator?
There are surely times when I doubt that statement.
But when I reflect on the times in my life when I’ve felt most fulfilled and content, it’s always been tied to my spiritual walk with the Lord.
I can only imagine how much better it will be in Heaven.
Have a blessed Tuesday, friends.
