The Humble King | Matthew 12:15-21
How can a King be humble?
One of the hardest things to find in our world is humility.
Don’t get me wrong, plenty of people are humble.
But a true humility, one that’s pure in every sense of the word.
That’s almost impossible to find.
15 Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there. And many followed him, and he healed them all 16 and ordered them not to make him known. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:
18 “Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,
my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased.
I will put my Spirit upon him,
and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles.
19 He will not quarrel or cry aloud,
nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets;
20 a bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not quench,
until he brings justice to victory;
21 and in his name the Gentiles will hope.”
It’s the King of the Universe that ironically shows the truest form of humility.
I say ironically because He of all people has the right to not be humble. He created the universe.
He has every right to demand recognition, to demand worship.
And yet, Jesus tells people to not make Him known.
It’s something that I’ll never be able to understand because of my sin.
I’m an insanely prideful person. Most men I know are as well.
But if the King can be this humble, shouldn’t that be what I aspire to be as well?
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
“I am gentle and lowly in heart.”
What an amazing King we follow.
Have a blessed Wednesday, my friends.
