My Greatest Fear | Matthew 7:21-23
It should be everyone's greatest fear tbh
When you think ahead to the end of your life, when your eyes close on earth for the last time, what do you picture?
Not to be a downer, but whether you’ve thought about it or not, the day is coming for everyone.
I just hope to be on the right side when it all ends.
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
The scary thing about Jesus’ words in this passage is that it’s calling out Christians. Those who claim to believe in Him. Even those who were doing great works in His name!
One of the reasons I wanted to start this newsletter was to be purposeful in how I approach the Word of God, to reflect on it passage by passage, and to write about it so that I’ll be able to know what He said.
So many Christians out there don’t read His Word. I was one of them.
But not doing so leads to becoming false prophets like we discussed yesterday, and being a false prophet leads to a situation akin to today’s passage.
If you claim to be a Christian, don’t skip out on reading His Word.
It’s the basis of our knowledge of Him. And if we don’t know His words, how will we be able to discern a false prophet from a true one?
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
To know the Word is to know His voice. To know the Word is to know Him.
And to know Him is the greatest thing that we could ever hope to accomplish in this short life.
Have a blessed Wednesday, my friends.
