Eternal Security | Matthew 6:19-24

The best kind of insurance

Most people work pretty hard for their money. Others work harder to save their money. And others work hard to spend their money.

No matter which bucket you fall into, we can all agree that we could do with more.

The world we live in is money obsessed.

Even in the church, money is a hot topic. Prosperity gospel anyone?

It’s too bad that Jesus never spoke about it. Oh wait…

19  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

22  “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23  but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

24  “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Matthew 6:19-24

Jesus knew the temptation of money. These words, spoken 2000+ years ago, still ring true today.

You cannot serve God and money. There’s no getting around it. No amount of excuses work. He knows your heart.

And yet, we need money to survive in this world.

This is why Jesus follows this passage with the famous words, “Do not be anxious about your life.”

Imagine a world where all Christians were more obsessed with serving God than they were with making money.

That’s a world that I want to live in.

Have a blessed Tuesday, friends.
