Choose Your Fear Wisely | Matthew 10:26-33
One leads to eternal life, one to eternal death
Everyone’s afraid of something.
Surprisingly, the number 1 fear of mankind is public speaking. Even more so than death.
And that fear most likely stems from a fear of judgment. We all want to be liked.
Unfortunately, that’s not what Jesus says will happen.
26 “So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. 32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
But Christ says not to be afraid. The people on this earth who are against Christianity only have the power to take our physical lives.
He says instead to fear the one who can destroy both body and soul.
But He goes on to say that even though we ought to fear God, God views us as valuable to Him.
It’s an interesting juxtaposition.
How are we supposed to fear a powerful being and feel a sense of love and acceptance before Him?
The answer lies in the last 2 verses.
Choose Him.
If you choose Him, you’re able to rest in the loving embrace of a Father who cares about His creation.
If you choose Him, you’re able to go forth without any ounce of fear for the people who will be against you.
If you choose Him, you have God in your corner.
What could be better than that?
Have a blessed Monday, friends.
